It's been far too long since I gave an update on some of our runners out there. We've run in a bunch of stakes races this year from a limited number of horses. For whatever reason, we're not quite winning them at the same pace as last year, but we're getting into them and we're close. 2 wins in Handicaps, 1 Stakes win, and 5 Stakes placed from only 66 total starters on the year. 12% of our starts have resulted in a handicap/stakes placing or better. I'll take that. We have a couple of probable stakes starts coming soon too!
Ascendancy got back into the winners circle defending her title in the She's a Tiger at Pleasanton. She also ran a big race at Del Mar for an additional stakes placing in the Osunitas for trainer O.J. Jauregui. Look for her in the Tranquility Lake at Del Mar.
Trainer Ryan Kenney worked Sensical back into shape after a needed rest. He is 2 for 2 on the year now. Heading to Del Mar for his next start.
Mugatu has taken his owners around the country this year. Last week he got the Average Joes and trainer Jeff Engler a stakes placing at Laurel Park despite the race set up working against his preferred style. Mugatu has run in six stakes this year including two Grade 1's. Not bad for a $14k purchase.
I just want to leave you with the list of two year olds that I've purchased for clients. Many of these are very close to a debut. American Tango, Bella Colpa, Bitterly, Can Do, Cold Security, Coop Shoop, Maximus, Patmo (1 for 1 and headed for a stake <pictured>), Saratoga Cruiser, Shaboujee, and Spaghetti Tree. I've been hearing lots of good things about this group. Can't wait to see them race!
