I just wanted to share a few updates following the winter sales season as well as have a little fun at the end.
The CTBA sale was quite challenging for sellers again this year due to an overall lack of direction in California racing. I still believe there are some real opportunities this year if you bring the right horse to the races. I think we did just that with hip 126. He’s by top California stallion Sir Prancealot and out of a once promising Exchange Rate mare that was a stakes performer and former $285k yearling. This is her first foal and he’s got great size and more importantly, moves wonderfully. He was presold out so apologies to anyone that wanted a piece.
Moving almost directly to Lexington from Pomona for the Fasig Tipton Winter sale is always fun. Going from shorts to who knows? The weather was actually great in Lexington this year. I worked with several clients throughout this sale and wasn’t able to get everyone a horse within budget. I did get a couple that I’m very happy with.
I worked with Passion Racing to help find a broodmare in foal to Karakontie. Therefore I Am is by the top stallion in the country, Into Mischief, and out of a breed shaping female family that has produced big time. Seattle Slew and Private Account black type mares so close on the bottom of the page is unheard of these days. Can’t wait to see how she produces.
Lastly, I worked with trainer Schuyler Condon to find a racehorse. We’ve had great success in the past with the likes of Rome. This time we picked up More Than A Diva. She’s from the family of Tiz The Law and is a former Chad Brown horse. We think there’s a little untapped potential there and we’re going to find out soon!
Fun bonus: It’s 2 year old naming season. I have a colt by Lanes End Farm stallion Connect out of a The Factor mare Storybound. We submitted Liberty Biberty but it was rejected by the Jockey Club. Now, we’re open to suggestions. Fire away!
